The AS-i system allows multiple input and output devices to be connected together using a special cable. Each device is given an address so that it can be addressed by a plc. The system reduces the amount of interconnecting cable that is required on a machine and also allows equipment to be added or removed easily from the system. If the use is in a safety application an additional safety controller must be added and the number of non safety inputs or outputs is reduce, since each safety device requires two inputs. The whole system has several advantages over a conventionally wired system
