Inspection of the safety system is a vital requirement.
Before the system is specified the machine should be risk assessed in order to establish the level of safety equipment that is required. This is determined by the level of risk, the severity of the possible injury, the exposure to the risk and the possibility of avoiding the risk. A safety rating (SIL or PL) is then determined for the machine and the hardware can then be selected to meet this safety level required.
When the equipment has been installed in should be inspected to ensure it performs as required and that it meets the required safety level.
Further inspections should be made by the operator or designated person to ensure that the machine and the safety equipment are fully functioning before the machine is used each day.
Additionally on a regular basis (6 or 12 monthly depending on use) the machine and safety equipment should be inspected by a competent person (internal, insurance or 3rd party ie Cambrake Ltd) to ensure the system is still fully functioning.
Cambrake can help on all aspects of the machine safety, before, at initial installation and whilst in use.
