Separation Distance

The position of the light barrier from the trapping point is determined by the stopping performance of the machine and the object detection capabilities of the light curtain.

separation distance = (2 * stopping time) + penetration figure

Where penetration figure = 8 (object detection) - 14)

distances are in mm; time in milliseconds

Example Cambrake IR2-600-200-M-S rejection 30mm fitted to a machine with a stopping time of 150ms

penetration figure = 8 (30 - 14) = 8 * 16 = 128 mm

separation distance = (2 * stopping time) + penetration figure = (2 * 150) + 128 = 428 mm

The distance from the trapping point to the innermost point of the vertical section of the light curtain must be greater then 428mm.

When this figure is over 500mm it is possible to modify the value slightly. Further information can be found in HSG180
